RYA Competent Crew
This practical course is aimed at newcomers to cruising and is run over 5 days or 3 weekends. Living on board the boat you will learn the basics of seamanship and the skills needed to be a safe and useful crew member.
During the course you can expect to learn the following :
· Safety procedures
· The names of most of the various parts of the boat and its rigging
· When and how to use the important knots
· How to handle and store ropes
· Basic man overboard drill
· How to handle and control sails
· How to steer under sail and power
· About weather forecasts
· How to use the dinghy and behave in harbour.
· That sailing is FUN
These will help you to become a confident, capable and, most importantly, safe crew member.
